This is an update on impact of the novel coronavirus on Lighthouse Bible Fellowship services.
As you are all aware, the situation is quickly evolving with respect to COVID-19. As of March 16, 2020, Alameda County has issued more restrictive guidance, signing on to a shelter-in-place order along with a number of other Bay Area counties. This legal order is "directing residents to shelter at home for three weeks beginning March 17. The order limits activity, travel & business function to only the most essential needs." The order explicitly lists which functions are permitted, and church functions are not included in that list. In addition, it states that non-profit organizations are governed by the order, and that the prohibitions against public gatherings are issued without regard for the purpose of the meetings.
LBF is complying with this order, and as a result, we will NOT be meeting for Everybody In for the next three Wednesdays (3/18, 3/25 and 4/1), and there will be NO Sunday service for 3/22, 3/29 or 4/5. The plan is to upload recorded Sunday sermons to the church Website. We will continue to monitor public health guidance and revise plans as events unfold, and as always, our plans are "-- if the Lord wills."
We both desire to honor the civil authorities the Lord has in His kindness put in place for our good, as well as to further their goal of preserving public health through this order. The elders have prayerfully sought the best path forward, and it seems the providential leading is clear at the moment.
In closing, let us seek out how we can best use this season to serve the Lord. In addition to listening to the posted sermons and worshiping the Lord in our homes, we can be mindful that social distancing need not mean isolation -- we can still seek to reach out to one another in fellowship remotely. Even under this legal order, travel to care for those in need is permitted. We can speak a word of witness to those who ask of us the reason for the hope that is within us. And we can continue to support our local church (and in turn, the other ministries it supports) through our financial stewardship.
