Woman to Woman Ladies’ Ministry
April 2010 Devotional
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time…” I Corinthians 15:3-6a
When Jesus was crucified it says He “gave up His spirit” and then His side was pierced with the soldier’s sword and blood and water gushed forth as the final proof of His death. But what is the evidence that He really rose from the dead and why does it matter to our Christian faith? Scripture tells us He was wrapped in burial cloths and laid in the tomb yet when the two Marys and Salome went to the tomb early on Sunday morning, Christ was not there. The massive rock that had been rolled in front of the tomb to seal it had been rolled away and the Roman guards fled in fear when they realized Christ was no longer in the tomb because they knew the penalty for allowing their prisoner to escape would be death. The disciples came to see for themselves, but they found no body, only His grave clothes lying undisturbed. Yes, Jesus rose bodily from the dead as the ultimate proof that He is the Messiah. And Paul tells us that the resurrection of Christ not only ensures our resurrection, but also proves that our sins have been paid for and our faith is not in vain.
“…if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain…. if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. But now Christ has been raised from the dead.” (italics mine) I Corinthians 15:14, 16-17, 20
Christ died to save you from the penalty of your sins and Romans 6:23b tells us: “…the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Place your trust in Christ and join other believers on April 4 as we celebrate the day we call Easter, a commemoration of the day Christ rose from the dead.
He is risen! He is risen indeed!!
