Woman to Woman Ladies’ Ministry
March 2010 Devotional
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.
Psalm 139:7-10 NASB
If I go to heaven, You’re there…….. If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, You’re there.Where can I go that You are NOT there? No where. This psalm clearly teaches us one of God’s most comforting attributes, He is omnipresent, or everywhere present, meaning that He is not only always present He is present everywhere at once. Since God is also infinite His being knows no boundaries and so He can be everywhere at once, and not just part of Him, but all of Him. Now what this is not teaching is pantheism, that God is IN everything, in the rocks, in the trees, etc.
The truth of God’s omnipresence is taught throughout the Bible in the phrase, “I am with you always” which is repeated 22 times in both the Old and New Testaments. Jesus even used these words of assurance just after challenging His disciples to take His message to the entire world: “and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matt 28:20 What a comforting truth for all who follow Jesus to know that the Creator God of the universe is with us wherever we are to help and comfort us and at the same time is with other believers wherever they are to help and comfort them. Remember that the truth that He is with you always means that He’s always available to help you. Rest in this truth.
